A MESSAGE TO THE STUDENT

“You do not need a teacher to learn”

We have placed here a wealth of resources that you can use to learn Mathematics in the manner and time most convenient to you.

The truth is that twenty minutes doing Mathematics at home on your own – or with a friend-, listening to your favourite music and with a good learning aid are going to produce a lot more learning that several 60-minute lessons.

In this website we have just placed honest Mathematics and effective learning resources. If you spend here 20 minutes a day it will be 20 minutes a day of quality learning that you are doing.

Our emphasis is on the quality of the Mathematics we present and in the easiness of use of the website.

You do not need a teacher to learn

The fact is that even in the best of circumstances – and in the best of schools – lessons are not always the best moment and place to learn. There are too many distractions. There are too many people around -some of whom are not interested in learning. Lessons happen at times of the day when maybe you are not in the best disposition to learn. It is really 12pm the best moment for me to learn quadratics? Maybe, but probably not.

There is an experience that I always remember from when I was a secondary-school student. We were doing logarithms. After several lessons I realised that I was not understanding the subject. What did I do?

The next day after school I went to the local library, got a Mathematics book and took it home. I had some dinner and settle down to work. I spent several hours working on logarithms with the book. It was hard work. But when finally I went to bed I was able to do logarithms and has been able to do logarithms ever since.

By doing that I not only mastered logarithms. That was the less important bit that I learned that day. I learned that you do not need a teacher to learn. I learned that you can learn without a teacher, without a lesson and even without a textbook.

I want to share that wisdom with students that may be in the same situation that I was that day. “I am finding this bit difficult. I am stuck.” You could go to the library and get a book but honestly these days it is easier and better in many ways to go to the internet and try to find some resources there.

I hope that you find these resources useful and you learn whatever it is that you need to learn.
